Humoresque

Humoresque was written for the international Viola’s 2014 composition competition and was my first work for a solo string instrument. Developed through research and practical work with a violist, it explores the viola’s technical and colouristic possibilities while remaining rewarding to perform. Its virtuosity and unexpected effects give the piece the playful character suggested by its title.
