Songs of Imploration

Songs of Imploration for bassoon and piano brings together short movements that function separately while forming a larger cycle. The work reflects the growing importance of singing in my compositional practice. Knowing the bassoon closely through my brother and frequent collaborations allowed me to write from the instrument’s breath: many melodies were sung before they were notated, giving the music a vocal, physically breathing character.
