Trio

The Trio for violin, horn and piano was commissioned by horn professor Luc Bergé as a substantial twenty-minute work for one of his students. Its conception followed the improvisatory thinking of Case Studies, but on a much larger scale. To avoid repetition, I worked through the piece internally before playing or notating it. Even a week before the deadline, no notes were on paper, yet the music felt complete in my mind; once notation began, the performers’ score emerged within a few days.
